A Memory Box honours the connection between a person and their animal companion.
Honour the memory of your animal companion by creating a memory box in a safe, supportive environment.
People who are grieving the loss of a companion animal often feel very alone and unsupported in their grief. Others may not understand the depth of the connection they shared with their animal friend or the degree of loss they feel as a result of their animal friend’s passing.
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
Through visual arts and inner reflection, this workshop will give participants an opportunity to celebrate the special bond they shared with their animal. This will be done in a supportive environment through the creation of a memory box—a box that is decorated to represent the loving connection between a person and their animal companion.
This workshop is not a therapy session or a peer support group. This workshop will NOT encourage participants to talk about the details of their animal’s passing or relive their grief.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
No art experience is needed to attend this workshop. A box and art supplies will be provided for each participant and are included in the workshop cost. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs and/or other items that they would like to include in their memory box.

The Memory Box Workshop is something I am so glad I did. The facilitators were so warm, welcoming and caring and I quickly realized that they truly understood the depth of sorrow and mix of emotions that the death of a beloved pet brings. With sincerity and respect they helped each person at the workshop create a beautiful box to commemorate their pet. The materials were very expertly and tastefully chosen and there was so much to choose from I had no problem making up a box commemorating my dog and cat. There were lots of examples to help with ideas and each person was given all the freedom they needed to create something close to their heart. There was an amazing meditation at the beginning of the workshop that resonated a beautiful harmony to our time there and brought wonderful peace and balance to it all. Each person was also given time to share with the group the story of their pet if they wished and they were able to express any feelings they had about their experience. It was so validating to know that others had similar feelings about the loss of their pets as well. I truly felt that the workshop helped to remind me that the connection with my pets continues even after they are no longer with me physically; their belovedness will always be with me and is real. The workshop was so worth it; it gave me so much I really feel that it was a gift itself."
